This issue explores the theme of ‘computing for energy’, with a particular focus on how distributed computing and decentralized computing provide a backbone for Europe’s future energy systems, providing computing resources along the edge to cloud to high-performance computing continuum. Examples considered include a digital twin and swarm technology for grid management, predictive grid maintenance, intelligent charging strategies and IoT-powered home energy-management systems. The energy efficiency of computing systems is also explored, while the magazine also highlights the latest research, spinoffs, product launches and student activities from the HiPEAC network.
