Raj Sankaran is a Principal Specialist and R&D Leader at Argonne National Laboratory, a Fellow at the Northwestern-Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering (NAISE), and a Senior Fellow at the UChicago Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering (CASE). He earned his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 2011, focusing on modular electronics and protocols to construct and compose reusable Tangible User Interfaces. As the Chief Architect for the Waggle AI@Edge platform at Argonne National Laboratory, Raj spearheads systems research for designing and developing new edge platforms. He leads or co-leads several DOE and NSF research initiatives aimed at integrating AI solutions into scientific workflows, notably the NSF Sage Project. Collaborating extensively with multidisciplinary teams, his research interests span various domains, including atmospheric science, environmental monitoring, urban studies, and security. Raj has mentored several dozen graduate, undergraduate, and high school students at both Argonne National Laboratory and Northwestern University. Raj co-created and co-conducts the Workshop on Parallel AI and Systems for the Edge (PAISE - https://paise.org/), which has been co-located with IPDPS since 2019.
