He received his B.Sc. degree in Electronic Physics in1985, M.Sc. degree in Electronics in 1986, and Ph.D. degree in 1990, all from the University of Granada, Spain. His Ph.D. dissertation received the Award of Ph.D. dissertations of the University of Granada.
He has been at the Open University, U.K., Department of Electronics (University of Dortmund, Germany) and Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (University of Essex, UK), as invited researcher. Currently he is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Technology and Architecture of the University of Granada.
He has published more than 60 technical papers on international journals included in the JCR, more than 130 contributions to international conferences, and four textbooks on Computer Architecture and Structure.
His research interests include parallel processing and parallel computer architectures, multi-objective optimization, artificial neural networks, and evolutionary computation. He has led five research projects in the area of parallel algorithms and architectures for classification and optimization problems. In these areas, he has been advisor for 25 Ph.D. thesis and has also participated as researcher in more than 30 projects funded by the European Commission, the Spanish Government, and the Regional Administration.
He is Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society and Member of HiPEAC.
