The Computer Sciences (CS) department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center aims to carry out research and development to influence the way computing machines are built, programmed and used. The Workflows and Distributed Computing group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center aims to carry out research on programming models for distributed computing. More specifically, this group will be contributing to the HP2C-DT project aiming at the development of a High-Precision High-Performance Computer-enabled Digital Twin (HP2C-DT) for modern power system applications. This project is in collaboration of the CITCEA-UPC center (https://www.citcea.upc.edu/). The HP2C-DT project aims to develop an innovative network Digital Twin (DT) concept, able to represent with a high degree of fidelity modern power systems in a wide variety of applications, such as transmission, distribution, generation, railway and industrial networks. The main project goal is to maximize their resilience and real-time performance during the high-demanding and challenging energy transition, achieving 100% renewable power networks. More specifically, BSC will contribute to the project with the development of high-precision large-scale network simulations in an HPC environment and its integration with machine learning to develop the digital twin. The developments will be integrated in the PyCOMPSs/COMPSs programming environment.
PyCOMPSs/COMPSs (compss.bsc.es) is a task-based programming model that enables the parallel execution of applications in distributed computing environments. For this research, the group is looking for a post-doc to lead the design of the digital twin, to devise the required extensions to the syntax of PyCOMPSs and runtime of the COMPSs runtime. The job also includes active participation in the projects, attending project meetings, collaborating with partners and writing deliverables.
