On 15th August 1961, our Insitute was founded as the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela under joint management of the Government of India and Government of Orissa for imparting quality education in the field of Engineering and Technology. The college was designated, on 26th June 2002, as the National Institute of Technology, a fully autonomous Institute supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. On 15th August, 2007, on its 47th Foundation day, the Institute was declared to be an Institute of National Importance by an act of the Parliament. Over the years, NIT Rourkela has strived to establish itself as one of the premier national level institutions for carrying out front line research and imparting quality technical education in the country.
