HiPEAC

PhD student/Postdoc/full-time researcher at RWTH Aachen University

RWTH Aachen University is Germany´s top-ranked engineering university with 45,000+ students. The Institute for Communication Technologies and Embedded Systems (ICE) is headed by Prof. Rainer Leupers, Chair for Software for Systems on Silicon. ICE performs R&D projects in different areas of embedded and cyber-physical hardware/software system design. Our main application domains are wireless communications, automotive electronics, AI accelerators, and cyber-security.

ICE maintains tight cooperations with industry partners worldwide and has transferred numerous technologies to semiconductor vendors, system houses, and EDA companies. ICE receives funds from national agencies like DFG, Cyberagency and BMBF, and is also engaged in many European projects and networks like HiPEAC. A line of successful spin-off companies originates from ICE, e.g. Cadis (acquired by Synopsys), Axys (acquired by ARM), LISATek (acquired by CoWare/Synopsys), Silexica (acquired by Xilinx/AMD), MachineWare and RooflineAI.

ICE is looking for excellent Ph.D. students and PostDocs which are hired and compensated as full-time researchers. Talented people interested in contributing to a leading-edge and highly international research institute are invited to submit their application at any time.

Your tasks:

• Contribute to ICE´s R&D projects in the areas of embedded processor architectures, compiler technologies, multicore HW/SW design tools, virtual prototyping, ASIP and SoC design, neuromorphic computing for ML, RISC-V, and hardware security

• Interact with our European and worldwide academic and industry partners

• Participate in project management and event organization

• Assist in teaching, e.g. lecture exercises, labs, and seminars

Requirements:

• Master degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or similar with excellent results. For PostDocs, additionally a PhD title (preferably from a leading international research institution) is required.

• Sound knowledge in Linux based C++ software development

• Skills in the areas of processor/multicore architectures, electronic design automation, hardware security, compilers, RISC-V, SystemC, and/or HW architecture simulation are beneficial.

• Excellent communication skills, must be a team player. Entrepreneurial attitude is a plus.

• High proficiency in oral and written English. German is beneficial.

Compensation is based on TV-L 13 (federal salary rate) for PhD students/researchers and TV-L 14 for PostDocs. RWTH is committed to promoting the careers of women and therefore looks forward to receiving applications by female candidates. RWTH welcomes applications from suitably qualified disabled people.
