DTU is posting this announcement as coordinator of AEGIS. The PhD positions are hosted by different universities and companies across Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Finland, and Ireland; they are not all based at DTU.
AEGIS is recruiting doctoral researchers across a network of 15 PhD projects at universities and companies in Europe. Current vacancies, project descriptions, and application instructions are available at: https://aegis-dn.eu/positions/
The December 31, 2026 date on this network announcement does not replace the application deadline of an individual position. Each host runs its own recruitment, and some positions have already been filled. Please check the official advertisement for each project and apply before its deadline, which may be earlier.
AEGIS — Adaptive Grid-Interactive Edge Datacenter Fleets — develops methods that let small datacenters adjust their electricity use to grid conditions and renewable energy availability while meeting computing service requirements. The work connects computing systems with energy systems and control.
The PhD projects cover power electronics and control, cooling, energy-efficient AI hardware, digital twins, energy modeling, machine learning, privacy and security, and the coordination of computing workloads across multiple sites. Researchers will collaborate across projects and test their methods in datacenter and telecommunications settings.
The network includes the Technical University of Denmark, EPFL, TU Wien, Imperial College London, TU Berlin, Lund University, Aalto University, Dell, Ericsson, and TDC NET. DTU coordinates AEGIS.
Each doctoral position provides 36 months of funding, an employment contract with social protection, PhD enrollment, research and training support, and research visits to academic and industrial partners. Salary, employment conditions, admission requirements, and start dates depend on the recruiting host and country.
Applicants need an MSc or an equivalent qualification that permits PhD enrollment in computing, electronics, energy systems, telecommunications, or a related field. You may apply before graduation if you complete the required degree by your start date. Each project specifies its technical requirements. Applicants should be comfortable working in English and collaborating with researchers from other disciplines and organizations.
All nationalities are welcome. At recruitment, applicants must not hold a doctoral degree. The MSCA mobility rule applies: you must not have lived or carried out your main activity, such as work or studies, in the recruiting host’s country for more than 12 months during the preceding 36 months. Short stays such as holidays do not count.
Follow the application instructions for the projects that interest you at https://aegis-dn.eu/positions/. Where a host requires an application through its own recruitment system, you must complete that application; a network expression of interest does not replace it.
DTU is also recruiting one postdoc in software systems integration, modeling, and simulation to connect the 15 PhD projects through shared interfaces, co-simulation, benchmarks, and joint publications. That three-year position has a separate deadline of November 30, 2026, at 23:59 Danish time: https://efzu.fa.em2.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_2001/job/7991/
