ALaRI is the Advanced Learning and Research Institute established in 1999 in Lugano, Switzerland, at the Università della Svizzera italiana one of the ten Cantonal Swiss Universities and of the two Federal Technical Universities belonging to the Swiss Higher Education System and recognized by the Swiss Federal Government.
This initiative is the outcome of the synergic interaction between the European academia and the high-tech industry. The members of the ALaRI steering committee and faculty work to foster academic-industrial collaboration in the field of embedded systems.
The main research areas are hardware/software design, modeling and simulation of embedded systems including focus on properties such as dependability, security, real time, and low power. Moreover, challenges of multi-core, many-core systems on chip as well as ubiquitous and pervasive systems are addressed.
Through its collaborative relations with Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and the Zurich Federal Institute of Technology (Switzerland), as well as ALaRI’s research programs (supported by European funding and by the Swiss Science Foundation), the Institute has been able to bridge the gap between information (software) technologies and electronic (engineering) technologies, exploring cutting-edge topics and addressing its research toward pragmatic industrial problems.
