Research Assistant/Ph.D. Candidate Position at the Institute for Software for Systems on Silicon (SSS), RWTH Aachen University

The Software for Systems on Silicon (SSS) group at the Institute for Integrated Signal Processing Systems (ISS) of RWTH Aachen University has an opening starting on January 1, 2009 for a

Research Assistant/Ph.D. Candidate

The SSS division performs research and development on electronic design automation tools for embedded systems e.g. future telecommunication and multimedia systems. Major research areas include multi-processor system on-chip (MPSoC) architectures, compilers for embedded processors, and architecture optimization for application specific configurable processors (ASIPs). These activities are performed in close cooperation with the teams of the Institute for Integrated Signal Processing Systems (ISS) as well as numerous international research partners from academia and industry.

PhD position in Computer Architecture and Embedded Systems - INRIA (Alchemy) and Thales Research & Technology - FRANCE

Patterns and architectures of specialized programmable accelerators in multi-core systems
======================================================================

The Embedded Systems Lab at Thales Research and Technology develops and researches technologies that shape the future of electronic systems in the domain of aerospace, defence and security. The lab, jointly with the ALCHEMY team at INRIA, a leading European research group in the field of computer architecture, compilers and embedded systems, is proposing a PhD position in the field of processor specialization and customization.

Two PhD positions in software protection techniques

The PARIS (Parallel Information Systems) research group at Ghent University is offering two PhD positions in the fields of software protection. In the recent past, this group has conducted research into software obfuscation, software diversification, hybrid static-dynamic attacks on software protection, and protection mechanisms against side-channel attacks, which so far resulted in two PhDs (Matias Madou and Bertrand Anckaert).

PhD / postdoc position in compiler research for dealing with process variability

The PARIS research group at Ghent University has received a 4-year grant from the Fund for Scientific Research - Flanders (Belgium) to do joint research with IMEC into the use of compiler technology to work around memory defects caused by process variability. The ultimate goal of this research is to improve the processor fabrication yield by including compiler capabilities in the validation and testing process. A more detailed description of the project can be found in http://www.hipeac.net/system/files/PhDVAPOR_eng.pdf.

Modelization of a Petaflop range architecture for LQCD

The CAPS project-team at IRISA/INRIA Rennes, http://www.irisa.fr/caps/, is offering a PhD position in the context of a multi-disciplinary project involving physical theoreticians, compiler experts and architecture experts.
Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (LQCD) is the theory for Nuclear and Sub-nuclear Physics and it simulates the properties of the strong interaction at a sub-nuclear scale, modeling the matter as a quark crystal. The overall project objective is to try to define an architecture targeting petaflop range performance for solving Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (LQCD).

Two PhD Positions in Communication Systems/Computer Architecture

Applications are invited for two PhD positions in Communication Systems/Computer Architecture at Simula Research Laboratory in Oslo, Norway. The positions will be funded jointly by Simula and Sun Microsystems. Simula collaborates closely with Sun Microsystems in order to undertake fundamental research in interconnection networks and high performance computing. This cooperation is aimed at meeting the network technology requirements for the next generation of supercomputers.

PhD student positons in the Operating System/Computer Architecture Interface department at BSC (Barcelona Supercomputing Center)

Applications are invited for PhD student positions in the research lines of the Computer Science Department ( http://www.bsc.es/plantillaF.php?cat_id=55) at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS).

We are offering PhD Student positions for a period of 4 years (with possibility of extension) in the operating system/computer architecture interface group. In this group currently we are involved in projects with several chip companies as well as several European projects. For a complete list of publications of the group in the last years, please visit: http://personals.ac.upc.edu/fcazorla/

The objective of this position is to do a PhD in the field of the interaction between the processor architecture and the operating system with special emphasis on the area of High-Performance Computing (HPC) applications. If you are interested in applying, please visit: http://www.bsc.es/job.php?j_id=127

PhD studentships in Software Performance Optimisation at Imperial College London

We are actively looking for strong PhD students to start in October 2008 and April 2009. We are interested in a broad range of software topics, but currently are especially excited about programming models and software development tools for heterogeneous multi-core architectures. We maintain close links with with hardware and software vendors, and also with applications, including computer games, visual effects for film and TV, computer vision/robotics, computational science, including climate modelling, and visualisation. Please get in touch if you interested!

Programming Tools and methodology for Software Radio SoC design

The Citi laboratory (http://www.citi.insa-lyon.fr) has a grant for a PhD Thesis. The research topic is the validation of software radio reconfiguration algorithms through systemC simulation of hardware platforms (more precise description below). The background required is: compilation, system, processor architecture, C++ programming. Skills in parallel programming, signal processing algorithms or hardware design can be useful too.
