<br><font size=2 face="Courier">SCOPE OF THE TECHNICAL PROGRAM. </font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">The PLDI conference seeks original research
papers that focus on</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">issues in the design, development, implementation,
evaluation, and use</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">of programming languages. A strong PLDI
submission will present a</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">creative solution to a real problem, or
evaluate existing solutions in</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">a way that sheds new insights, or both.
</font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">TOPICS OF INTEREST. </font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">Papers are solicited on, but not limited
to, the following topics as</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">they relate to the design, development,
implementation, evaluation,</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Courier">SUBMISSION. </font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">Submissions may not exceed 10 pages formatted
according to the ACM</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">proceedings format. These 10 pages include
everything (i.e., it is the</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">total length of the paper). The program
chair will reject papers that</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">exceed the length requirement or are submitted
late. </font>

<br><font size=2 face="Courier">Paper submission is double-blind to reduce
reviewer bias against or</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">for authors or institutions. Thus, the
submissions cannot include</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">author names or institutions.</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Courier">Papers must describe unpublished work that
is not currently submitted</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">for publication elsewhere (including journals
and proceedings of</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">refereed conferences and workshops). See

<br><font size=2 face="Courier">EVALUATION. </font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">The program committee will evaluate the
technical contribution of each</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">submission as well as its general accessibility
to the PLDI</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">audience. Papers will be judged on significance,
originality,</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">relevance, correctness, and clarity. The
paper must be organized so</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">that it is easily understood by an audience
with varied expertise. The</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">paper should clearly identify what has
been accomplished, why it is</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">significant, and how it relates to previous
work. </font>

EXTERNAL REVIEW COMMITTEE</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Courier">The external review committee (ERC) is
a new addition to PLDI 2009.</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">This committee will provide most (if not
all) of the external reviews</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">for PLDI. We added the ERC to ensure
that most of the paper reviews</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">are from (i) experts and (ii) from people
that are reviewing a number</font>
<br><font size=2 face="Courier">of PLDI papers and are thus calibrated
to the paper quality.</font>
