The PARIS (Parallel Information Systems) research group at Ghent
University is offering two PhD positions in the fields of software
protection. In the recent past, this group has conducted research into
software obfuscation, software diversification, hybrid static-dynamic
attacks on software protection, and protection mechanisms against side-
channel attacks, which so far resulted in two PhDs (Matias Madou and
Bertrand Anckaert). The group has a lot of experience in building
tools to support this research, with the mature tools Diablo (for
static binary rewriting) and Diota (for dynamic program
instrumentation) proving to be excellent experimentation tools. With
this track record, we are now looking for motivated, focused PhD
students that want to move away from the black-magic art that software
protection has been so far, and bring it to the next level where
qualitative and quantitative metrics rule.
The PARIS group, from which Prof. Koen De Bosschere coordinates the
HIPEAC2 European Network of Excellence, performs research into
hardware/software codedesign, and into the software/hardware interface
(compilers and computer architecture). As such this position offers
the ability to participate heavily in the HIPEAC2 network.
For more information on how to apply, contact prof. Bjorn De Sutter at bjorn.desutter at elis.ugent.be
