Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in the field of Computer Architecture

at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering

Application deadline March 27, 2008

The High-Performance Computer Architecture Group is conducting research on
design principles for the next generations of mainstream as well as embedded
high-performance computers. To ease the programming task and yet achieve a
high computational performance at as a high energy efficiency as possible
are important objectives in the knowledge generation process that the group
contributes to. To this end, the group has a solid track record in
contributing to design principles of parallel computers and a current focus
is on the new breed of multi-core computers.
The group participates in the HiPEAC European Network of Excellence as a
partner and in two other European projects that focus on multi-core
architectures. A driving theme regards the definition and implementation of
new hardware/software interfaces to ease the task of designing software for
exploiting the computational performance of multi-core computers.

Aim of work and details about employment

To strengthen the research and education in computer architecture, the
Department is now seeking candidates for an associate professorship in
computer architecture with a research focus on design principles of parallel
computer systems.
The candidate is expected to do independent research in the area of
high-performance computer architecture that is of relevance to the
mainstream direction towards multi-core architectures. The candidate is also
expected to enrich the research in the group by seeking funding, by giving
advice and mentorship to PhD students and by participating in on-going
projects at the European level, especially, participating in seminar series.
This position is primarily meant as a platform for furthering the
applicant’s academic career development. Apart from research, the candidate
is expected to also participate in teaching activities in computer
architecture.

The position as docent/lecturer is a full time tenure appointment. Work
tasks include teaching on undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels,
supervision of doctoral students, own research and participation in
management/administration of activities on group level. Teaching will be
done in English.

Expected Qualifications

Applicants for the position should have relevant merits with respect to the
research and education activities described above. In order to have the
position as associate professor (docent), the applicant should fulfil the
requirements outlined for this qualification.
If the docent level is yet not realized, the position is designated Senior
Lecturer. It is then expected the applicant should be able to reach the
docent qualification level within the frame of the employment as lecturer
and is then promoted to Associate Professor.
