CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS
Proposal Submission Deadline: April 30, 2008
Advanced Multimedia Processing Using High Performance
Computing: Next Generation Design and Applications
A book edited by Satyadhyan Chickerur and Dr. Aswatha Kumar M
M.S.Ramaiah Institute of Technology, India
Introduction
Multimedia processing, by and large, uses conventional processors which
allow some degree of multiprocessing and multiprogramming. There is a void
between the speed at which processor technology is evolving, and the number
of trained personnel who can propagate the use of these latest processor
developments for improved information processing—specifically, multimedia
processing. There is a dearth of existing literature on how high performance
computing can further enhance performance and efficiency in processing
multimedia information. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how high
performance computing can add value to the next generation of multimedia
applications. As such, applications involving databases, audio, images, and
video are of primary importance. High performance computing's evolution will
require development in the fields of parallel algorithms, cluster computing,
multi core programming, Cell BE programming, etc.. The need for an edited
collection of articles arises from a gap in the existing literature on the
fields of high performance computing, multimedia applications, streaming
data, data mining, etc.
Objective of the Book
This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest
empirical research findings in the area. It could be useful for
professionals who want to improve their understanding of high performance
computing and its use in solving present day problems involving multimedia
information. We intend to cover the existing and the emerging frameworks for
processing multimedia information using high performance computing tools.
This new text will also attempt to consolidate all the methods for parallel
programming on high performance systems, as the present trend is to handle
multiple medias.
Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and
researchers working in the field of multimedia information processing in
various disciplines, such as image and video processing, audio processing,
data mining, bioinformatics, advanced computer architecture, and mobile
communication. Moreover, the book will provide insight and support for
researchers who are working in the area of multimedia processing and using
advanced technologies like multi core architectures, clusters and parallel
computing machines. The publication can also be adopted in graduate and/or
post graduate programs.
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Multimedia applications – Need for High performance computing.
HPC Data Models for Multimedia processing.
Compression models for parallel environments /HPC.
Frame works for efficiently accessing databases in HPC.
Content based image retrieval using HPC.
Effective Image and video segmentation using HPC tools.
Multimedia content representation on HPC frameworks
Multimedia interface design on HPC
Design and development of multimedia demand servers using HPC
Design and development of bioinformatics frameworks for HPC
HPC and Healthcare
Parallel Image Processing
Next generation HPC applications.
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before April 30,
2008, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and
concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will
be notified by May 31, 2008 about the status of their proposals and sent
chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by August 31,
2008. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review
basis. This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea
Group Inc.), publisher of the Information Science Reference (formerly Idea
Group Reference) and Medical Information Science Reference imprints. For
