PhD studentships in Software Performance Optimisation at Imperial College London

We are actively looking for strong PhD students to start in October 2008 and April 2009. We are interested in a broad range of software topics, but currently are especially excited about programming models and software development tools for heterogeneous multi-core architectures. We maintain close links with with hardware and software vendors, and also with applications, including computer games, visual effects for film and TV, computer vision/robotics, computational science, including climate modelling, and visualisation. Please get in touch if you interested!

In particular, full (and in some cases enhanced) funding is available for UK candidates, and partial funding for other EU students in such areas as:

  • Language and compiler support for efficient programming of heterogeneous multi-core systems (EPSRC Industrial CASE award joint with Codeplay Software)
  • Performance evaluation of partially-complete and evolving software (EPSRC Industrial CASE award joint with IBM)
  • Interactive multidisciplinary environments (EPSRC Industrial CASE award joint with Arup)
  • Next-generation earth system models (NERC grant joint with the Imperial College Ocean Modelling group)
