The roadmap is an essential process of the Hipeac 2 activities. In order to make the best document, we need the collaboration of the Hipeac participants: it is our common document.
The timeline is the following:
- Kick-off with cluster leaders + relevant people: Hipeac conference 2008
- Preparation meeting in Cambridge: Définition of the members
- Process definition: Q1 2008
- Regular technical update in cluster meetings (in rotation)
- Final material from clusters: M9
- Cross-check with Hipeac1 roadmap
- Roadmap workshop: M14 (?)
- Yearly (TbD) consolidation meeting (for cross clusters topics), Regular meetings, updates
- Integration of external feedbacks
- Second version M42 (Tend - 6)
In order to prepare the first draft, a list of questions was sent to the cluster leaders early 2008, with a deadline for answers by end June 2008.
The list of questions is the following:
Preparation for the Hipeac 2012-2020 vision (aka "roadmap")
The following question are related to the domain of your cluster:
- What are the main problems/challenges you see in the next 5 years?
- What are the main problems/challenges you see in the next 5 to 10 years?
- What are the main problems/challenges you see after the next 10 years?
Name at least one subject in your field that you’re not going to work on (because you don’t believe it will happen, for example).
For all of the challenges you enumerate, please give an assessment of:
- Who is working on that? (Country, university, industry, ...)
- Is there already any promising solutions? Which ones? Are they similar?
- What is the activity of Europe in that? Of the Hipeac partners?
- What could be the impact if the challenges are not solved?
- What could be the impact if the challenges are solved?
Address societal problems like environment, energy, aging
Suggest what will create jobs, what might cost European jobs
Generic questions:
- What will be the most important domain in 10 years from now
- Do you see other challenges in other domain that could impact (positively or negatively) your domain?
Explain.
- What do you see as probable key evolutions in your domain in the next 5 years?
- In the next 5 to 10 years?
- Beyond 15 years?
(This is different from the first questions: current and probable evolution could ignore a problem/challenge !)

- What technical issues can solve them?
- Technology drivers?
- High tech opportunities in the next 10 years?
- Directions where we lost jobs if we don’t invest?
