Driver assistance systems help drivers to take correct and quick decisions in delicate situations by providing realistic assessment of the dynamic behavior of potential obstacles.
Driver assistance systems based on Target Tracking systems are among those using various types of sensors and measuring devices. Highly sophisticated, small-sized and low cost sensors are being produced more abundantly and more easily than ever before. The development of new applications using these sensors is not only a possibility but also a necessity in the current stressful driving conditions. Target tracking systems use these sensors as front end measuring devices.
In this context, the “Systemes eMBArqués” SYMBA group at the University of Valenciennes (France) is involved in the PRIMA-CARE national project. In addition to SYMBA, several other universities, research institute and companies participate in the PRIMA-CARE project (IEMN, INRETS, a-Volute S.A, etc.). PRIMA-CARE « Prévention de la collision Routière par association Intelligente Multi-capteurs - radar, - aveC gestion dynamique d’Alertes sonores, fonction du Risque Encouru » is funded through the french ANR-PREDIT program.
In this project, we aim at designing compact, evolutionary and reconfigurable hardware architecture for a multi-target tracking system. In the framework of this project, several types of on chip parallel architectures (Multi-Processor System-on-Chip or MPSoC) will be validated. Certain critical function units will be implemented as dedicated circuits on FPGA whereas for others an SIMD or VLIW architecture will be used.
Successful candidate will have unique opportunities to significantly contribute to technical (design, implementation, and evaluation), management (liaise with investigators in other institutions, participate in new proposals, reporting), and educational aspects (teaching) of research.

Required Skills: Experience in embedded system design and computer architecture.

Desired (but not obligatory) Skills: Experience in FPGA (especially Xilinx design tools), multiprocessor programming and debugging.

Education:
A master degree in computer engineering or electrical engineering is required.
Candidates must be fluent in English (written and spoken). French is not required.
The salaries are: 2 100€ (before taxes) a month.
To apply, please send a detailed CV, including names and contact information of two references, to Prof. Smail Niar (smail.niar@univ-valenciennes.fr).
