FlexibleDescription
The processing requirements of battery-powered consumer devices (phones, video-cameras, etc.) will grow to 10-100 Gops over the next 5 years. Achieving this performance while still hitting the power budget requires use of the right type of parallelism in each part of the system: VLIW/Superscalar, SIMD, SMP, AMP, etc. SIMD parallelism is particularly attractive because it dramatically lowers the energy expended in instruction fetch/decode. ARM's NEON instruction set provides support for SIMD programming.
The purpose of this internship is to test/design extensions to the NEON instruction set by vectorizing a variety of DSP kernels.
Requirements:
- Ph.D student with DSP, SIMD and C-C++ knowledge
