HiPEAC3 Thematic Sessions

About the HiPEAC3 Thematic Sessions

As part of the research coordination program, HiPEAC3 includes a new instrument, called Thematic Sessions. A Thematic Session replaces the clusters and task forces in HiPEAC2; it is self-organized and more reactive. In HiPEAC3, any partner or member can propose a thematic session, on condition that it is related to the HiPEAC vision. A thematic session is comparable to an informal workshop. As an organizer, you will have to solicit contributions, but there should be no formal call for papers, neither a formal reviewing of the contributions. Proposers of a thematic session are encouraged to involve the FP7 projects and HiPEAC companies in the session they propose. In that sense a thematic session is very similar to the organization of a cluster meeting in HiPEAC2.

Implementation

Thematic Sessions are organized as meetings during the HiPEAC computing systems weeks. To that end, we will issue periodic calls for thematic sessions that will be included in next CSW. Proposers will be in charge of its program (for example, outcome of current collaborations and interactions, presentations of the EU projects, a keynote presentation, invited presentations, a panel, ...). The normal duration of a thematic session meeting is one or two slots of 90 min. The HiPEAC network is calling for high-quality sessions, i.e. sessions worth attending. All session will be automatically evaluated via a survey. The HiPEAC network can cover some of the costs involved in organizing the event (e.g. the costs of a keynote speaker).

Thematic sessions are for dissemination of research results and for networking. It is an ideal way to promote your research area in the HiPEAC community, to share your own research results, and to build a network of researchers from which you can form a consortium for a future project proposal. By organizing a thematic session, you help the HiPEAC network to work on the challenges of the HiPEAC roadmap. As a thematic session organizer you will also be invited to contribute to the next version of the HiPEAC roadmap, and hence to help steering the research in Europe. Volunteering to organize a thematic session is an opportunity to contribute to the HiPEAC community.

Submitting a proposal is simple and just requires to submit the following information using the form (link) we have created for this purpose:

  • Thematic workgroup topic
  • Contact person and Email
  • Motivation and objectives
  • Tentative program of the meeting
  • Expected HiPEAC3 financial support

The last call for thematic session was closed February 24th, 2012. A new one will open soon calling for proposals for the autum CSW.
