How to reach HiPEAC 2007, Ghent, Belgium

Getting from the airport to Ghent.

  1. Train:
    By far the easiest and cheapest way to get to Ghent is by train.
    The train station is located in the basement (level -1) of the airport terminal building itself.
    A direct ride with the Intercity Train (IC) takes less than an hour.
    IR trains can take longer (1 hour 20 min) or require you to change at Brussels South (Dutch: Brussel Zuid; French: Bruxelles Midi).

    At the train station 'Gent St Pieters' you can:

    1. Take a taxi to your hotel. Taxi's are parked just to the right when you leave the train station by the main entrance. A ride costs about € 7.
    2. Take the tram:
      • From the train platform, stairs are directly leading to the tram station. If you leave the station by the main entrance: turn left and walk to the tram tunnel.
      • Take tram 1 to the city center. Tickets (€ 1.20) can be bought at the vending machines at the tram stop.
      • Get of at the Korenmarkt.

      Hotel Sofitel, where the conference takes place, is at only a few minutes walk from the Korenmarkt: walk past the church (Sint-Niklaaskerk), cross the square (Emile Braunplein) and go left to the Belfortstraat. Once past the city hall, you'll see Hotel Sofitel at your left (Hoogpoort 63, 9000 Gent).

  2. Taxi:
    By car, it takes at least 45 minutes to reach Ghent, depending on the traffic.
    There are official (but expensive) taxi's parked outside the airport (http://www.brusselsairport.be/taxi/). A ride to Ghent can cost up to € 100.

  3. Rental car:
    You can rent a car at the airport and drive to Ghent yourself. (http://www.brusselsairport.be/rental/rental.cfm)

    You can park your car at one of the many underground car parks. When driving in the city center, just follow one of the 'P'-signs.
